Abstract

An electrochromic composite material consisting of conducting polymer and nonconducting polymer was developed due to its interesting research subjects and potential technological applications such as information display and smart window. For electrochromic technology applications, material properties such as electrical conductivity, mechanical flexibility, optical properties (absorbance) must be controlled to obtain optimal performance. In this research, the electrochromic composite film of polyaniline-CSA and Poly(methyl-methacrylate) or PANI-CSA/PMMA was prepared. Electrochromic effects on PANI-CSA/PMMA composite film were investigated using cyclic voltammogram and optical properties (optical absorption) were studied by using in-situ UV-VIS measurements. The experimental results showed that the PANI-CSA/PMMA film exhibited a good quality electrochromic phenomenon where the color change of the PANI-CSA/PMMA composite film depended on the applied voltage. Polyaniline-CSA/PMMA composite film is a promising material in electrochromic material applications as they exhibit a color contrast change from a transparent state (low optical absorption) to a non-transparent state (high optical absorption). In situ UV-VIS measurements revealed that the optical properties (optical absorbance) were also highly dependent on the applied electrical voltage. This confirmed the results from the cyclic voltammogram measurement. © 2023 Author(s).
